Today, we’ll uncover its true meaning – and it points to something far greater than most realize: the building of the New Jerusalem!
In Daniel chapter 9, around 522 BC, while Daniel prays for the end of Jerusalem’s desolation, the angel Gabriel appears and says: ‘Seventy sevens are decreed for your people and your holy city…’
This prophecy has six goals: finish transgression, end sin, atone for iniquity, bring everlasting righteousness, seal vision and prophet, and anoint a most holy place. It’s all about completing the rebuilding of ‘Jerusalem’ – but not just the earthly one.
The countdown begins not with a Persian king’s decree, but when God’s own ‘word’ went out in 522 BC during Darius’ first year – confirmed by prophets Haggai and Zechariah as rebuilding officially started.
The Seventy Sevens is “symbolic“, not strictly 490 literal years. It divides into:
– 69 Sevens : Building the main structure and details of the holy city.
– Final one Seven: Split into two halves of “3.5”, focused on the Anointed One and God’s holy people.
Jesus, the Anointed Prince, appears around AD 30 after the end of 69 Sevens. He makes a strong “New Covenant” with many.
The first “3.5” of the final ‘Seven’ runs to AD 70. When earthly Jerusalem and the Temple are destroyed – marking the midpoint where sacrifice ends under the New Covenant.
The second “3.5” of the final ‘Seven’ – ‘a time, times, and half a time’ or 1,260 days, 42 months – runs from AD 70 until the end of the age. This long period is for sealing the 144,000 saints, the holy people who form the Bride of the Lamb.
This prophecy is ultimately about building the “heavenly New Jerusalem” – the perfect holy city coming down from God .
The earthly city was a shadow; the real one achieves all six goals: everlasting righteousness, no more sin, the most holy place anointed.
When the last saint is sealed, the Seventy Sevens complete. Signs like occurring “floods and wars” point to the end approaching. Jesus is coming soon – the Bride is being made ready!
The mystery is being revealed in our time.
