Adam and Eve

The world today is full of various serious problems. Many scholars, institutions, think-tank organizations, religious figures, politicians, and others have provided numerous academic opinions and theories to solve these worldwide issues. However, these problems have not been solved since Adam and Eve sinned.

Genesis records how this world was created and how humans sinned. Actually, there were many things that God could have written into the Bible. But as we read the first few chapters of Genesis, we learn about three things related to humans. These should be very important and meaningful to us (human beings), as they reveal global and catastrophic problems that would later arise in the human world. This helps us understand these worldwide problems, gain the keys to solving them, and move toward a bright future. Let’s start with a brief introduction to these verses in the Bible.

As the Bible records, Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day of creation. God declared that everything was good. Genesis 3:1-5 records that the snake deceived Eve into eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and Eve was deceived. After that, Eve gave the fruit to Adam, and he ate it too. Genesis 3:7 records that their eyes were opened, and they saw that they were naked, so they covered themselves with fig leaves. From that moment, sin entered the human world.

When Jehovah God called Adam, they were afraid and hid. When God called him repeatedly, he answered that they were scared because they were naked. In Genesis 3:11, God said: “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” Then Jehovah God made the judgment, and Adam and Eve were driven out of the Garden of Eden.

Genesis chapter 4 records that Adam and Eve had their eldest son named “Cain,” and later Eve gave birth to another son named “Abel.” Cain was a farmer, and Abel was a shepherd. One day, Cain took the produce of the land as an offering to God, and Abel also offered the firstborn of his flock along with their fat as an offering to God. Jehovah God accepted Abel’s sacrifice but not Cain’s. Cain’s countenance fell, and he became very angry.

In Genesis 4:6-7, Jehovah God admonished Cain and said, “Why are you angry? And why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” He told Cain to do good and subdue sin and evil mind. But obviously, Cain did not subdue evil; instead, he was subdued by evil mind and did evil things. He attacked his brother and killed him.

Jehovah God revealed the above three things at the beginning of Genesis: (1) Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent and ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and sin (evil) entered into their minds (wrong sexual concepts). (2) Cain attacked Abel (brothers fighting brothers). (3) Killing occurred. We can see that these three things are our major problems worldwide. Let’s think about it.

(1) First, starting from Adam and Eve, the most serious problem faced by mankind is that we have improper sexual thoughts and conceptions rooted in evil minds. This creates the biggest problem in the human world. It causes suspicion, jealousy, strife, rape, and all sexual crimes… in the relationships between men and women. All of these have bad influences on mankind, such as unwanted pregnancies, husband-and-wife discord, infidelity, family quarrels, domestic violence, family breakdowns, divorce, and killing…

These bad influences not only affect Adam and Eve themselves and their next generation but also affect generations upon generations and families upon families. In this terrible family situation, children’s lives are full of fear, lack of love, and unhappiness. Improper sexual thoughts are one of the main parts of evil mind. Who took away the purity, cuteness, happiness, and trust of childhood? What distorts the psychology and physiology of our kids? It needs to be emphasized that this not only affects that child but also affects the child’s generations. Who was the first child? That was the first generation (Cain and Abel) of Adam and Eve, and it continues to our generations right now.

(2) Second, when Adam and Eve’s descendants formed families, many families formed fraternal tribes, and after a long time, many fraternal tribes became different fraternal nations. They developed into different languages, different ethnic groups, and became all the countries and nations today.

Cain hated Abel and attacked him. The biblical account of this event reveals that brothers attack brothers, tribes attack tribes, and nations attack nations—and it will happen repeatedly. Starting from Cain attacking Abel with a stone, humans have used bows, spears, knives, swords, guns, artillery, tanks, fighter jets, warships, missiles, rockets, nuclear weapons, and more to attack their brothers, fraternal tribes, and nations. Hurting and killing started from one man and continues to the present. The root cause is that brothers are at odds and hate each other, so that is another major part of evil.

(3) Third, Cain killed his brother Abel in the end. Jehovah God revealed this single, individual murder to show us that murders will continue to appear in our communities. How often do we encounter these terrible things around us? Yes, you know the answer. These things make us feel depressed and horrified. If we are the victims, undoubtedly it will make us experience the deepest panic, depression, and deep pain both physically and mentally. If a “killing” thought sprouts in people’s minds, it will lead them to take action. 1 John 3:15 says, “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” So we must sweep out the “killing” mind and keep our minds clean. “Killing” is another main evil.

As God’s people, He gave us the Bible to make us aware of these evils. May we all think about how to solve these world’s problems. May we all love good and hate evil, and do the will of God. Amen.

Let’s pray.

Jehovah God, our heavenly Father, we pray to you and admit that we are sinners. Father, please forgive us. Thank you for creating this world, creating the first man Adam and his wife Eve. Although human beings have sinned and rebelled against you, causing these problems, thankfully, because of your love, you let Adam and Eve continue to have children so that we can exist now. Not only can we exist and enjoy life, but you also save us through Jesus Christ so that we can gain eternal life.

Thank you for revealing the world’s problems through your words, and thank our Lord Jesus Christ as the ransom for the salvation of mankind. So that we can be free from sin and death in the future—thank you, God, very much. Please, Father, give us wisdom and help us to have good minds and proper sexual concepts; help brothers live in harmony and love each other; sweep evil minds (killing) out and have a ‘Love Your Neighbor as Yourself’ spirit. May honor, strength, thankfulness, and praise be to our Father and to our Lord Jesus Christ forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer is also in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
