How can we gain a correct view of sex?
Think about your appetite for food. If you had no desire to eat, you wouldn’t eat — no matter how delicious the food is. What would happen? You would eventually become weak and die. God created the “feeling” of appetite so that we would “be eager” to eat and enjoy food. It is normal, good, and essential for sustaining our individual lives.
In the same way, if humans had no sexual desire, they would not engage in sex or enjoy sexual relations. Eventually, there would be no new births, and humanity would slowly become extinct. This is not God’s will. He wants mankind to “multiply and fill the earth.”
Both appetite and sexual desire are essential for human survival. Appetite sustains the individual in the short term, while sexual desire ensures the long-term survival of humanity.
For this reason, we should not treat sexual desire as something evil or bad. Instead, it is essential for the continuation of humanity, the correct view is: sexual desire is normal, good, and important.
However, although sexual desire itself is good, immoral sexual behavior is harmful. Sexual immorality is like eating spoiled food, you will get sick and weak. God uses ‘sin’ to describe it, that means it does not achieve God’s original purpose. God clearly commands that sexual relation is reserved only for husband (man) and wife (woman). Anything outside of this brings harm to individuals, and even to humanity if it occurs on a large scale.
So, both hunger and sexual desire are our “feelings“, we regard it as a gift from God. Both are good, normal, and part of the human instincts from God.
Just as eating good, nutritious food would build us a strong, healthy body, keeping God’s commandments regarding sexual relations will bring us satisfaction, as we could see our families become bigger, stronger and happier. As God promises that our sons and daughters will stand eternally, blessed and enjoying their lives forever!
“17 Thus says YHWH,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am YHWH your God,
who teaches you to profit,
who leads you in the way you should go.
18 Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
and your righteousness like the waves of the sea;
19 your offspring would have been like the sand,
and your descendants like its grains;
their name would never be cut off
or destroyed from before me.”
– Israel 48:17-19
Amen.
